Abstract

This study examines the influence of the WhatsApp application as a feedback platform for Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) programmes, with particular focus on Effurun. The objective was to investigate the extent to which WhatsApp facilitates audience participation in DBS programmes. The study was anchored on the Uses and Gratification Theory and adopted a descriptive survey research design. Data were collected using a well-structured questionnaire administered to one hundred and thirty randomly selected residents of Effurun metropolis. The findings revealed that residents of Effurun prefer using WhatsApp to engage with DBS programmes and find the platform convenient for interaction with Delta Broadcasting Service. The study therefore recommended, among other measures, that DBS should continue to utilize WhatsApp as a major channel for audience interaction while also exploring other social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to broaden audience participation.
